Southside Hookers on Lake Hudson
This tournament was on March 19th, 2016 on Lake Hudson. The lake clarity is extremely muddy compared to normal and the fish are still in a bit of a funk due to clarity and the recent cold snap. Saturday morning was 29 degrees and ice forming everywhere on the boat, reels, and rod guides. In practice I had found a few fish in the backs of creeks where the water seemed bit more stable and slightly warmer. We started in the back of one of those creeks and managed to catch a limit by 9:30am. The fish were holding to wood and rock in 2-5 foot of water. Fish were biting a spinnerbait good in practice but on the day of tournament we caught fish on everything but a spinnerbait...go figure. Most of the fish came on a 3/8oz or 1/2oz jig n' chunk tipped with a Gene Larew Punchout craw. I basically through the same rod setup all day which was a 7'-3" Heavy Kistler KLX with a moderate fast tip. I was throwing 17# Seaguar Fluorocarbon. A couple of the fish hit the bait extremely hard while others would barely pick it up and swim to the side. We moved to another part of the lake for the last couple of hours and culled up for about 1/2 pound. We caught 8 keepers all day and had almost 15lbs on a day where only 5 limits were weighed in out of 86 teams. We proudly finished in 5th place. My buddy Kumeng Vue aka POW smashed em with almost 24 pounds. He is an awesome guy and very deserving of the win...congrats POW!
